Granted, he's vindicated with evidence from Tali later on, but that sort of insubordination doesn't help their case in the least. Then on the Citadel he outright threatens to murder Saren, right in the middle of a meeting with the Council to prove his guilt, no less. In the first act, Shephard punches out a rambling scientist on Eden Prime, mostly just for annoying him, and threatens several civilians at gunpoint over something as relatively minor as a smuggling ring, all in the midst of a Geth attack on the colony. Right off the bat, full on Renegade Shephard had 3/4 of his squad slaughtered on Torfan in the backstory and generally acts like a raging asshole to everyone he encounters.
